@doxxy Is hardware raid better than software raid?

We've heard "don't use motherboard hardware raid because if your motherboard fails you're screwed", but maybe a PCIe card is better about that.

@frost Depends on whatcha want! I wanted to go HW raid with a card because then it's managed on a HW level and I like simple things. If the cards fail now days sounds like you can still access the data in most cases and this specific card can be purchased as it's still in production. I'm sure my alpine server will like just having a singular storage space to plop things.

Though this one doesn't have 5/6/50/60 so kinda sad about that.

@frost well in theory it should be easier for us to manage. All your storage presented as a single thingy and what not plus not having to deal with software raid is nice.
