...just need to get the Linux version to like, actually launch.

@doxxy ...damn, everyone's just going to jump ship to the proprietary centralized thing AGAIN...

@frost Whatcha mean? I was already on Neos but left when drama kicked upstairs which halted updates. :0

@doxxy Resonite may have cool devs, but it's still proprietary and centralized, right?

We can't run our own server that has no connection to the "main" servers, e.g. if we got randomly banned?

@frost There has been talk of moving it to open source in the future, after phasing the proprietary libraries and dependencies out. Nothing concrete yet though.

@frost I'm not holding out on it though. Had a good time in Neos before so I'm sure I'll enjoy Res as well. If it goes OSS that'd be neat though.

@doxxy yeah... I'm wary because I don't want to pour our life into a place we could get randomly banned from.

And worse, I don't like seeing everyone going "oh it's wonderful and we're gonna do /everything/ for it!" when we're never going to see any of it and will be cut off from all our friends /again./

@frost That's fair. Though I also wanna do the same in Godot! Making multiplayer toki pona games sounds like a fun way to learn the language.

@doxxy if people made stuff both for resonite and open stuff that'd be great

but they aren't
and they won't

@doxxy and like
I WANNA SEE ALL THE COOL STUFF
but we can't
it's VRChat all over again. >,,<

@frost I was trying to get owncast working with Neos at one point and we did get it working with web sockets. Gotta have my external chatties x3

@frost @doxxy I would hop on OSGrid but I don't know anyone else on there...

@foxxy @doxxy we're on Overte (if you've heard of Vircadia, it's that, hostile takeover and the devs split)

it's a direct Resonite/etc. competitor, but open and I think federation is working now... but we don't know anyone else on there. >,,<

(which is why I'm so depressed about all our friends hopping on Resonite.)

Maybe we should try OSGrid again! Bounced off it pretty hard because of the controls. Maybe there's a client that feels like a game, though.

@frost @doxxy Oh neat, I didn't know. I could try setting up Overte but I still don't have a super great ISP.

@foxxy @doxxy yee!

I bet you'll be fine. We don't even know who our ISP is and our connection sure isn't the most stable, but Overte works fine.

@foxxy @doxxy (..heck, y'all wanna try overte now, once we're home in a few minutes? There's desktop mode too, don't have to deal with VR. and I don't know if you have two headsets, ha.)

(No accounts needed, it's just download the appimage and run!)
