Day 2 of Advent of Code completed, yays!
⭐⭐⭐⭐

I just completed "Trebuchet?!" - Day 1 - Advent of Code 2023

uspol, vulgar

At "family" gatherings, it is always morally correct to liberate voter registration cards and ID cards from their current wrongful Repugnican't owners. Please be eco-conscious and recycle in fire, or a shredder. Don't worry, they like this kind of go-getter-thinking as per "golden rule". Plus, they can always get their ID back quickly and easily if they pretend to be an "illegal imag'ant." They'll even receive a free plane ticket and house anywhere in the country. They said so!

re: random food cravings

I'm 100% for chopsticks but I think in this hypothetical scenario, in a real-life alternate furry world, I would open my mouth (while sitting upright) and it would make a loud vacuum cleaner noise. Each slice of the sushi foxxo - one by one - would get sucked in, but swirling around my mouth like something caught in a vortex. Upon reaching the center it bursts into video-game style stars and flowers, and a coin-collect sfx would play. Everyone around would be unsettled.

re: random food cravings

To the side there's a little dish of tamari sauce. Oh and there's two foxxos on the tray, so they don't get lonely. There's also a pair of these small, long, pointy stick thingies. I dunno what purpose they serve.

I've never had one of whatever food this is, but if it was in front of my muzzle right now, I'd nom it; if I could make it, I would. Don't worry, the rice foxxos are 100% consenting and their genders are whatever the first comment says they are. (2/2)

random food cravings

Right now I have a craving for white rice cooked in carrot juice packed and rolled inside nori with cucumber, shiitake mushroom, maybe some other candy (nature's candy, e.g. vegetables), cream cheese, and that yummy pink sauce, oh and in the shape of a little foxxo that wiggles its tail when I nom on it. The fox's ears are Shiso leaves. They're resting on a Paulownia tray with art depicting a field of plum, iris, and cherry flowers. (1/2)

A big thank you to all the amazing floofs teaching others how to program computers. You're doing great and you are appreciated, thamks for all your hard work <3

Friendly reminder that all Nintendo games are free =3

#flatpak

Phew, now that that's taken care of...

Today I realized Flatpaks have an advantage over statically-linked apps: it's easier/simpler to de-duplicate the statically-linked dependencies, so that's pretty neato.

But Flatpaks are just not good especially when it comes trying to get software to function for the "general public" without requiring them to know how a sandbox works, use the terminal, write executable scripts, or unsandboxing the entire app.

No thanks. We can do better.

I'll always avoid when possible.

(Flatpaks are infinity times better than Snaps, those are almost just malware (as of 2019, I haven't checked since...))

  • want per-file/resource permissions? -> have an interpreter or libc that implements open() et.al. to either ask the user, or reads the declarations made at package time (allow/deny/ask).

Also, requires the OS to implement the flatpak runtime. Got a new OS (/distro/DE)? Well now it has to implement the flatpak and dbus apis before flatpaks work, instead of just relying on individual shared libraries.

I still don't get the whole thing (vs static + dynamic linking). It all seems so difficult and complex. Why not just...

  • want a specific version of libfox? -> statically link libfox v6.9
  • want per-interface permissions? -> make a new dynamic linker that prompts the user, "do you want to allow this app to access libfox? yes/no" OR have the linker read declarations at package time (allow/deny/ask).
  • want a unified api? -> make a new shared library

Happy Unix date 1.7e9 everyone! You all did a great job existing this long, keep up the great work being you <3

open if fox

you like being called a good foxxo don't you? :neofox_kisser:

I'll stop soft-forking Misskey/calckey/firefish when I'm allowed to connect to my PostgreSQL server without modifying the source code, thanks :D
